The Wine
Wine Advocate’s Neal Martin wrote: “Who makes Argentina’s best Malbec? The answer might well be Tres 14, the personal label by Trapiche’s chief winemaker, Daniel Pi.” Using hand harvested, high grown grapes from Lunlunta in Mendoza, Pi creates what he describes as ‘tinto de Garage’ and what Neal Martin calls “a world class Malbec”. It’s no blockbuster, but well defined, elegant and built to last, with a year’s ageing in finest oak barrels. Martin says: “It has an intense, rather stemmy bouquet that is well defined and complex. It is quite mercurial in the glass with fleeting glimpses of blackberry, sous-bois, damp tobacco and smoke. The palate is edgy and floral with stony black fruit, mulberry and Dorset plum.” Sip slowly with rare steak.
