The Wine
Oz Clarke points out that “Chile is capturing Pinot’s elusive character at remarkably low prices” (Grapes and Wines). Few more skilfully than the great LFE family winery. Founded in 1976 by Luis Felipe Edwards Senior, the estate is one of Chile’s most dynamic and exciting, continually challenging the boundaries of viticulture and winemaking. They recently scooped back to back ‘Chilean Winery of the Year’ awards, in 2012 and again in 2013. Riversong is their Pinot Noir specially intended for regular enjoyment. It’s made from plump Pinot fruit from the warm Maule Valley and offers raspberry and blackcurrant richness with a long, spicy finish. It’s great lightly chilled with seared tuna steaks or with chicken casserole or even roast pork.
