The Wine
Alentejo enjoys superb conditions for Shiraz, with pockets of ‘terra rossa’ soil similar to that in Australia’s hallowed Barossa region (where this much loved grape is king). This velvety Portuguese red was made by superstar winemaker Jaime Quendera – who in the last 10 years has won more than 300 international awards for his wines. Quinta das Mouras is a new estate in the heart of the Alentejo. It was founded in 2000 by businessman Francisco Colaço do Rosário, who bought 226 hectares of vineyards and filled his cellar with every bit of high tech gadgetry on the market. In an excellent position, the vineyards produce grapes with real depth of flavour, which you’ll taste in this great red. Enjoy with peppered steaks or grilled lamb chops.

"Deep, fruity mouthful. One of my recent favourites. Lots of fruit but a hint of leather at first"
