The Cider
You may have noticed the renaissance in small scale cider making in recent years. In 2004, near Glastonbury, two young enthusiasts, Andrew Quinlan and Neil Macdonald, were enjoying a glass of cider and a hog roast when they decided to become part of it. Today they’re based in West Bradley Orchards whose cider making history dates back to 1850. A drift of Old Spots, the original orchard pigs, roam among the trees and complete the rural idyll. They’re allowed to hoe into the apple pulp after pressing in return for providing the lads with a handy second income. The ‘Juggler’ is their latest, innovative style, infused with mulling spices. Great well chilled with a ploughman’s lunch in summer or served warm in winter round an open fire.
