The Wine
While Nebbiolo tends to steal the limelight in Piedmont with its Barolo and Barbaresco wines, Barbera itself is a quiet hero. It produces charming reds that make delicious drinking when young, but, as you’ll see with this red, there’s no hurry either. Manera reveals the grape in all its plum and tangy cherry glory. It comes from the Araldica winery – a specialist in Moscato and Barbera, for which they’ve won many awards during their 60 year history. Talented oenologist Claudio Manera heads up the team, selecting grapes from vineyards across the Monferrato hills. This 2016 is pure fruit, no oak, and has silky tannins, plum and liquorice scented notes and raspberry freshness. Superb with local dishes like pasta with pork ragù or meatballs.
