The Wine
Manera reveals the Barbera grape’s sour cherry tang in all its glory. The wine comes from Castel Boglione, the only town in the area built on the valley floor. Once surrounded by thick woodland, and often covered in thick fog, the town had a reputation as a place full of bandits and thieves. Today its reputation is based solely on quality wines. Talented oenologist Claudio Manera heads up the winemaking team at Araldica and selects grapes from vineyards across the Montferrato hills. The cellar specialises in Moscato and Barbera wines, for which they’ve won many awards. The 2014 has silky tannins, plum and liquorice scented fruit and raspberry freshness. Sensational with local dishes like pasta in duck ragù.
