The Wine
Mandriano is a bright, citrusy white, with abundant Sicilian charm. The backbone of the blend is native Grillo, which brings slightly nutty, ripe apple notes to the party and is perfectly complemented by the lemony zip of Sauvignon. It’s the work of the Colomba Bianca winery, founded in 1970 in the southwest corner of the island. It brings together a talented team of local growers and winemakers under the guidance of Dino Taschetta. Thanks to the exceptional climate, Dino has produced a white that’s characterful yet refreshing and with a ripeness more normally associated with New World vineyards. Chill down and enjoy on its own. It also goes down a treat with local seafood – grilled swordfish or prawns – or Sicilian cheeses like pecorino.
