The Wine
Merlot is so popular among Kiwi winegrowers that it is now the fifth most planted grape in the country. And, as Oz Clarke points out in Grapes and Wines, “Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s best regions for Merlot, the country’s most successful 'Bordeaux’ red variety. It ripens earlier and more completely than the other varieties.” The area is one of the sunniest of the North Island and, cooled by ocean breezes, is ideal for this grape. Our Buyer Down Under, Dan Parrott, loved the taste of this wine, and because of the great price bought the lot. Dan reckons it knocks the socks off similarly priced Saint Emilion, and suggests decanting to release its full aroma and lush fruit flavour. Enjoy this smooth plum and spice wine with roast beef.

"Plenty of punchy Merlot with enough mid palate cherry, tannin and oak to take it to a long finish"
