The Wine
At his small garage winery in the McLaren Vale, Adam Hooper specialises in wines that are big on character, small in volume – he insists on very low yield grapes to show McLaren Vale character at its best. Adam started with the region’s classics, Shiraz and Grenache, but now also uses quirky originals like this old vine Sangiovese from a single vineyard on the renowned McMurtrie Road. Over the years, his wines have scored highly with the critics. And rightly so – they are always of the utmost quality and have so much character. Tiny yields, part whole grape fermentation, hand plunging, with ageing in oak – this is a little masterpiece of a red, packed with berry and mocha notes and rustic oaky complexity. Great with pork or roasted squash.
