The Wine
Along with the Barossa, Glenrowan in Victoria produces some of Australia’s most impressive Shiraz. Bob Berton chose several parcels of premium Victorian Shiraz for this rich red – naming it after local outlaw Ned Kelly, who in 1880 made his famous last stand in Glenrowan. Bob fermented each parcel separately and combined them to create a wine with big, upfront, weighty fruit and the tannic structure to age gracefully. Maturation in oak casks (the majority of which were American) has given the wine a boost of sweetly scented vanilla oak. This powerful red, with rich berry fruit character over firm but rounded tannins, is in its element with food. Enjoy it with roast or barbecued lamb, peppered steak, venison or a hearty casserole.
