The Wine
If you want a highly regarded claret that won’t require a second mortgage, this beguiling Saint Emilion is a very shrewd buy. The vineyards of Château Larcis Ducasse have their origins in Roman times, when the bacchanalian settlers saw the winemaking potential of the well drained, south facing slopes of the Côte Pavie. Contemporary wine lovers only began to experience the wine's true potential after 2002, when Nicolas Thienpont teamed up with revered consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt to modernise the estate’s production. Yields of the 35 year old vines are strictly limited. Every bunch is harvested by hand and wines are aged in 75% new oak. It’ll reward further ageing, but if you’re opening it now, decant at least an hour before serving.
If you want a highly regarded claret that won’t require a second mortgage, this
"This is an excellent Larcis-Ducasse that should give 20 years of drinking pleasure, possibly more"
