The Wine
Saint Julien may be the Haut Médoc’s smallest commune, yet it has the highest concentration of Cru Classé vineyards. Château Lalande Borie was created by the late Jean Eugène Borie, who for many years also managed the excellent 2ème Cru estate Ducru Beaucaillou. He formed the Lalande Borie estate out of land belonging to Château Lagrange, planting out its 18 hectares of vines in 1970. At over 40 years old, the vines are now at the ideal age for producing really concentrated fruit. Today the property is run by Jean Eugène’s son, Bruno, who continues to maintain the same high standards and meticulous care in the vineyards and the cellar. Enjoy this fine claret with simple red meat dishes when young and with roast game birds when more mature.
