This delightful rosé is a clairet – a style somewhere between a red and pink that’s unique to Bordeaux. It’s from the talented Le Chai team, who took beautifully ripened Cabernet and Merlot from Castillon to make this delicious, berry fresh rosé.

The Wine
Bordeaux rosé is a most elegant wine to sip and, with another great vintage in 2016, there’s lovely depth to boot. This pink is from a small property in the Castillon village of Sainte Colombe, where Tony Laithwaite bought his first Bordeaux estate, Château de la Clarière, in 1984. Such is Tony’s belief in the supreme quality of this village’s terroir that, since then, he has added a few more gems to his Sainte Colombe portfolio, and, two years ago, this included Châteaux du Bois and de Colombe. With Stéphane Derenoncourt’s Domaine de l’A next door, it seems Tony is not the only one to be convinced. Using Cabernet and Merlot fermented cold for maximum freshness, this crisp fruit rosé is delicious solo and with seafood or chicken dishes.

"Particularly aristocratic, deeply flavoured Bordeaux pink, with its grapes hailing from Castillon"
