The Wine
The Lategan family have been tending their extensive vineyards in the breathtaking Breedekloof Valley for the last 170 years. Former Young Winemaker of the Year De Wet Lategan has been in charge of the cellar since 1989 and is responsible for the stellar rise of their flagship wine. It uses Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga – a striking blend of the renowned Bordeaux grape and Portugal’s Douro star – from some of the family’s oldest vineyards. This lends a real power and depth to the wine, while 20 months in new French oak casks gives the luscious plum and blackberry character a rich wrap of vanilla. No wonder it regularly wins top accolades from critics around the world, this vintage scoring four prized Platter stars, a Trophy and two Golds.
