The Wine
More than 160 years since its foundation, Andresen remains one of the few 100% family owned port houses. With extravagant layers of cherry, molasses, dark chocolate and sweet spices, the 1900 Colheita is a truly rare and magnificent wine. The word colheita is Portuguese for harvest or vintage. Most colheita port spends up to 20 years ageing in barrels, making it closer in style to aged tawny than, say, vintage port. However, Andresen is the sole port house still bottling the extremely rare 1900 on demand. It should be drunk within a year of purchase as it will not improve further. Open this splendid wine at Christmas or New Year or for some other significant celebration. Best enjoyed on its own or perhaps with nuts and dried fruits.
