The Wine
With La Conseillante as a neighbour, Pétrus to the north and Cheval Blanc just across the border in Saint Emilion to the south, Château L’Evangile is a superbly situated estate. Realising its enormous potential, the powerful Rothschild family bought a controlling interest in L’Evangile in 1990. Since then, through thick and thin, the wines have been consistently outstanding. In a superb vintage like 2010, the results are simply extraordinary. Parker awards this wine 98 points. It’s made mostly from Merlot, with a little Cabernet Franc, and aged for 18 months in oak casks (40% new). Stand a bottle upright for a day to allow any sediment to settle. Then decant for an hour and enjoy with roasted red meats or game. It’ll mature for decades.
